Canada West leads by two goals after 40 minutes

SUMMERSIDE -- Canada West will take a 4-2 lead over Sweden into the third period of Tuesday afternoon's round-robin game at the 2009 World Junior 'A' Hockey Challenge.

The teams entered the second period tied 1-1, but Canada West's Daniel Carr (1:36) and Kellen Jones (2:01) scored 25 seconds apart to make it a 3-1 game. Sweden's Joakim Nordstrom answered at 2:23, and Curtis Gedig restored Canada West's two-goal lead with a power-play goal at 19:09.

Gedig's goal tied teammate's Cody Kunyk's record for the fastest goal to start a power play -- six seconds. Kunyk scored his record-setting goal late in the first period.

Sweden's Adam Almquist (4:38) and Canada West's Cody Kunyk (19:44) exchanged power-play goals in the first period.

Overall, Sweden is outshooting Canada West 21-15 through 40 minutes.
