Temporary visitor guidelines put in place at Island Hospitals earlier this month to prevent the spread of the H1N1 flu virus will remain in place for at least another week.
Since Nov. 3, Prince County Hospital in Summerside, Western Hospital in Alberton, O'Leary Community Hospital and Stewart Memorial in Tyne Valley have not been admitting visitors under the age of 18, and no more than two designated visitors per patient during their hospital stay.
Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Hillsborough Hospital in Charlottetown, Kings County Memorial in Montague and Souris Hospital are also affected by the visitation measures.
Visitors experiencing flu-like symptoms are asked to refrain from visiting patients until they are symptom-free.
Compassionate exceptions may be made on an individual patient basis in consultation with the health-care team.
Also, people experiencing flu-like symptoms and have scheduled appointments at a hospital should contact the facility in advance of their appointment to advise of their symptoms.
