This summer I will be spending my Canada Day celebrations at Oak Acres Children’s Camp. I have volunteered at the camp for three years and working as a camp counsellor at the camp this summer will allow me to spend many awesome celebrations with campers. Their spirits are a driving force on days like Canada Day and even at the camp it feels like a celebration. We will spend the day dressing up everybody in red and white and participating in many creative Canada Day activities. We usually have a picnic outside for lunch and if it’s nice, go swimming at the beach.
I enjoy getting to spend the day with my campers as they are always far more excited about the occasion then I am. Their energy and spirit is electrified and it makes me feel like I am a little kid again. I never really thought of Canada Day as a large celebration in my life but celebrating it for the second year in a row at camp is quite exciting. I cannot wait for the camp season to begin and celebrate Canada’s birthday with a group of highly enthusiastic individuals!
