St. Louis -

This weekend the grounds of the St. Louis Community Centre will come alive with the sounds of some of the top bluegrass and old-time music bands in the region. This western P.E.I. community hosts the fourth annual St. Louis Bluegress & Oldtime Music Campout June 18, 19 and 20.
Nova Scotia's South Bound joins Bluefield Grass, Eastern Edition, Country Grass, SK Bluegrass, Dunromin Four, Bethany Coughlin and New Acquaintance, and Prospect.
Also joining the lineup is New Brunswick's New Connections, along with the Arsenault Brothers, Charlie Hansen, Keelin and Elaine Wedge, Heartfelt Bluegrass and Like Father, Like Daughter.
Eileen Brown, one of the organizers of the event, says the idea for the Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Campout came when the community centre had to cancel its weekly bingo because of poor attendance.
"We still needed a way to raise money to keep the community centre going, so we came up with the idea of hosting the Bluegrass and Oldtime Music Campout," says Brown, who can also be seen with a musical instrument in her hand during the weekend.
Funds raised are split between the Miminegash Fire Department and the Community of St. Louis, which operates the St. Louis Community Centre.
Last year, organizers were able to hand $1,000 each to the Miminegash Fire Department and the Community of St. Louis.
The cost for the weekend pass is $30, which includes rough camping. An electrical hook up will cost $35. Sites for electrical hook ups are reserved on a first come, first serve basis.
Individual day passes can be purchased for $10 on Friday night, $15 on Saturday and $10 on Sunday.
There will be a children's program for those between the ages of four and 10 on Saturday.
Guitar, mandolin, harmony and bass workshops will also be held on site.
There will be a shelter, in case of poor weather, and there are washrooms, showers and concessions on site.
For more information, contact Brown at 882-3056 or Wilma Jones at 882-3518.
Jones, also an organizer and entertainer, said, "It's a great family oriented event," as she walked the grounds in St. Louis recently.
"It's a lot of fun. It features Island bands, as well as those from off-Island, and gives those Island bands a chance to showcase their stuff."

I am from out of town ..... what address should I plug in on my GPS? I can't seem to find the Community Center online for some reason. Of course my internet is a bit sketchy out here, too. Is there an address you can provide? What time do the festivities start today?
