Robert Morrissey is returning to politics.

The former provincial cabinet minister won the Liberal nomination in Egmont on the first ballot this afternoon in front of a crowd of more than 1,300 at Hernewood junior high school in Woodstock, near O'Leary.

Morrissey defeated a long-time political colleague, Keith Milligan, who served with Morrissey under the Joe Ghiz and Catherine Callbeck governments, and Angie Cormier, a Cap-Egmont business woman.

It was Cormier's first foray into politics.

The vote count was not made public.

More than 1,100 votes were cast.
