CHARLOTTETOWN – The United Way of P.E.I., Staples and the Upper Room Food Bank have teamed up once again in hopes of making the back-to-school season a little easier for some Island children.
Similar to last year’s campaign, the organizations are hosting a school supply drive in order to raise funds to help Island children start the school year off right with all the supplies they need.
Last year’s campaign raised about $4,000, which helped close to 100 different families across the Island.
Staples gift cards were provided to the Upper Room Food Bank, which dispersed the gift cards to those families who needed a helping hand. Additionally, any surplus gift cards were used to purchase school supplies and donated to the Upper Room Food Bank.
This year, the organizations hope to hit the $5,000 mark and helping 125 different families.
Fundraising continues until Sept. 8. Anyone seeking to make a donation can visit the Charlottetown Staples at 655 University Ave. during regular business hours.
