TIGNISH – On Monday, Dan MacDonald received The Co-operators Community Achievement Award, for his outstanding community involvement. The award was created to honour Co-operators financial advisors who demonstrate outstanding support for the community in which they work, through financial aid and volunteerism.

MacDonald, The Co-operators financial adviser in Tignish and O’Leary, was named the Community Achievement Award winner for the Atlantic Region.

MacDonald devotes much of his spare time to volunteering for several non-profit organizations. He is on the P.E.I. Co-operative Council Board of Directors, he has volunteered for Children’s Wish and the IWK, fundraised for Western Hospital to purchase a diagnostic digital X-ray machine, helped build a $50,000 playground and volunteers for many sports and community events.

A true believer in the difference co-ops make, MacDonald is also involved with his local co-operative, the Tignish Co-operative Health Centre. His award citation notes that he “has always been a positive force within his communities and is dedicated to improving the quality of life in Tignish and O’Leary.”

“Every person is defined by the communities he or she belongs to, and I am grateful to be part of these co-operative and loyal communities. And I am even more fortunate to be able to give back to these communities in so many ways,” said MacDonald.
