For anyone getting ready to file their taxes already, they may have to wait a while longer if they are filing them electronically.

Canada Revenue Agency shut down E-File services on Jan. 14. The last date to transmit E-file Online, E-File Online Plus transmissions and send requests is Jan. 17.

The E-File services will only be shut down temporarily from Jan. 17 to Feb. 10.

Registered and approved E-File software companies are already approved for 2013 tax season and Canada Revenue Agency needs time to update their systems. Registered E-Filers will have to update to the 2013 tax software and ensure their software updates are downloaded prior to filing their first returns.

Currently half of the 25 million returns filed annually in Canada are filed by paper, and the other half through online services.
