CHARLOTTETOWN – Meetings & Conventions PEI (MCPEI) hosted their annual partner tradeshow recently at the Charlottetown Empire Theatres.  The tradeshow kicked off their annual Local Champion Campaign, and the purpose of the tradeshow is to educate potential clients on the services available should they host a meeting or convention on P.E.I.

The Meetings & Conventions PEI Partner Tradeshow is the Island’s only tradeshow for the convention and special events industries.

“For over 11 years local planners have made this a must-attend show,” says Michael Matthews, executive director for the organization. “Invitations are taken from our database, and this year we had over 110 in attendance with 18 of the organization’s partners exhibiting.”

“Meetings & Conventions PEI offers complimentary services and support to assist planners every step of the way to bring their meeting or convention to the Island,” states Jo-Ann Thomsen, business development director for MCPEI. "It is important that locals know we can assist with everything from the collection of proposals from suppliers, to site inspections, to providing knowledge… and, most importantly, that they know our services are complimentary. “

During the month of December the staff from the Meetings & Conventions PEI will travel across Prince Edward Island to create awareness of MCPEI and to encourage Local Meeting Champions to step forward. Islanders can become Local Champions by inviting groups they’re involved with to hold their next meeting on P.E.I. No meeting is considered too big or too small.

Meetings & Conventions PEI rewards the Local P.E.I. Champion with a candy bouquet, plus honours Local Champions at an annual recognition reception.

Meetings & Conventions PEI is responsible for bringing meetings and conventions to the province. Meetings held on the Island generate over $20 million annually to the local economy, and Local Champions are responsible for over 50 per cent of all local meetings and conventions booked on Prince Edward Island.

Local Champion colleagues also have an opportunity to attend educational and professional development meetings after hosting a meeting on P.E.I.

To become a Local Champion contact Meetings & Conventions PEI at 566.2549 or email info@peimc.com.
