Summerside - Work continues on the Regent pub and nightclub.

The former Summer Street Barz was supposed to re-open under new owners and the new name before the end of July but that estimation proved overly ambitious.

Frederic Freeman is owner of P.E.I. Multiphysics, which now owns the property.

The redesigned Regent is in the process of receiving it's final health and safety inspections, he said. Once those inspections are completed then all the proper licenses can be issued and the business opened.

"We could be open this weekend," said Freeman, "but we want to give people five to six days (notice) prior to opening."

Freeman went on to say he intends to hold a soft opening as soon as possible than have a grand opening about a week later.

As for when a soft opening will be possible Freeman hoped to have further details by the end of this week and make an announcement shortly after.

Freeman is also still asking for the public's opinion on The Regent. Discussions are ongoing on the bar's Facebook group but Freeman is encouraging prospective costumers to continue to make suggestions on what they would like to see at the establishment even after the bar is open.

"I'm going to open and give five to six months to everybody to give their opinion to what they want to see ... not what is there ... but what they want to see there," said Freeman.

If it was all that easy to just open up then why didnt someone from summerside do so if you didnt try it you should just stand behind the Freemans and be greatful that someone is willing to take the risk where so many wouldnt im glad you picked summerside because there are to many talk the talk but not the Freemans there walking and talking best wishes.

I hope things go well but when your sign says open in the middle of the afternoon and you can not go in for a beer with some friends because there is cleaning going on from the night before I thinks it is going to be hard to shake the old reputation

Good luck and maybe when I come back home I'll have a place to visit. 80's were the best.

I hope it goes well because we do need more options here in Summerside. However, when you go into an establishment like this at 3 pm on a Saturday afternoon and are not able to have a beer because there is still cleaning up going on from the night before it does not give me a good feeling that anything has changed since this place was last open. (Or maybe just turn the OPEN neon sign off until you are ready to open)
