Strong winds this morning have resulted in traffic restrictions on the Confederation Bridge and cancellation of crossings on the Northumberland Ferries Ltd. service between Wood Islands and Caribou, N.S.

Southwest winds have reached gale force in gusts on the Northumberland Strait as colder air pours into the area following mild conditions on Thursday.

For user safety, the Confederation Bridge has restricted certain classes of vehicles from crossing until the current high wind situation changes. Restricted classes include automobiles towing trailers, motorcycles, highsided vehicles including trucks, tractor trailers, recreational vehicles, and buses.

Bridge restrictions were put into place at 3:20 a.m.

NFL says that crossings this morning are cancelled and the ferry remains tied up.

Environment Canada says westerly winds are expected to increase to 60-70 kms/h today and Saturday across P.E.I. resulting in occasional flurries and local blowing snow.
