A potato truck overturned in Charlottetown Friday morning, causing 70,000 pounds of potatoes to spill onto the roadside.

The truck was heading north on Brackley Point Road and flipped onto its side when turning west onto Sherwood Road by the Charlottetown airport.

No one was hurt in the accident. The female driver was a little shaken, but otherwise fine.

Charlottetown police and highway safety officers were on the scene within minutes. An investigation is underway to determine if speed was a factor.

Nobody got hurt, and thats the main thing, said Steve Annear of Morley Annear Trucking Ltd., the company that owns the truck.

Annear said he believes the load of potatoes shifted causing the truck to overturn.

The 70,000 pounds of potatoes were on route to Cavendish Farms. Now, they will have to be sold for feed, Annear said.

Theyre all mixed in with the gravel and maybe some oil from the truck, so Cavendish wont take them now.

He estimated the load to be worth about $7,000.
