KISH, Rural take 'A' crowns

CHARLOTTETOWN - Kensington prevailed in an all-East Prince clash in the
girls' gold-medal game at the P.E.I. School Athletic Association/Domino's
Pizza senior 'A' basketball championships here Monday.
Kensington, which was led by the provincial championship tournament's most
valuable player Amy Marchbank, defeated the Three Oaks Axewomen 58-46.
In the boys' championship game, the Charlottetown Rural Raiders used a
balanced attack and dominated the boards to down cross-city rival Colonel
Gray 78-61.

Kensington, which was led by the provincial championship tournament's most
valuable player Amy Marchbank, defeated the Three Oaks Axewomen 58-46.
In the boys' championship game, the Charlottetown Rural Raiders used a
balanced attack and dominated the boards to down cross-city rival Colonel
Gray 78-61.
The Bluefield Two boys stopped Kensington 72-56 to win the bronze medal.
There was no girls' bronze-medal game as only three teams participated in
the provincials.
All three medal games were played at Colonel Gray High School.

Marchbank came up big in the final quarter to help Kensington secure the
victory, and finished with 14 points. Malary Schurman (12), Alicia Silliker
(12) and Mary Anne MacArthur (10) were the other top point-getters for
Kensington.
Karley McIver (15), Tasha MacKinnon (8), Jenna MacKinnon (7) and Rachel
Gallant (7) were the leading offensive producers for Three Oaks.
Kensington jumped out to a 14-9 lead after one period. Three Oaks, led by
McIver's strong play, regrouped in the second quarter and went into halftime
down 30-25. McIver continued to dominate in the third quarter as Kensington
got into foul trouble and saw its lead cut to 42-39 heading into the final
period.

Colonel Gray 61
Rural led 42-18 at the half and cruised to the championship.
Ryan MacKinnon, the provincial championship tournament's most valuable
player, had 21 points while his backcourt all-star partner Josh Blanchard
added 16 to spark Rural's attack.
All-star Sky Peng, who mounted a late charge with 18 points, led Colonel
Gray. Teammate Jordan Rose threw in 14 and Vincent Lin added 10.

Bronze medal
Bluefield Two 72
Kensington 56
Bluefield used a strong second quarter to open a 38-27 lead at the
intermission.
Sam Bevan-Baker scored 17 points to lead Bluefield, which received 15 points
from Colton Kennedy, 13 from Paul MacKenzie and 10 from Steve Murphy.
For Kensington, Derek Profit had 15 and Ben McCarvill chipped in with 12.
