SUMMERSIDE - SUMMERSIDE -- There will be a new P.E.I. women's curling champion in 2009.

Robyn MacPhee of the Charlottetown Curling Club eliminated clubmate Suzanne Birt, who won the last three P.E.I. Scotties Tournament of Hearts, in Monday afternoon's semifinal at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club. The final score was 10-4.

MacPhee, third stone Rebecca Jean MacPhee, second stone Shelley Muzika and lead Tammi Lowther will meet Kim Dolan's Charlottetown foursome in tonight's final at The Fox. Game time is 7.

The turning point in the semifinal took place in the third end, when Gaudet was heavy on a draw with the hammer that allowed MacPhee to steal four and build a 5-1 lead.

Dolan, third stone Kathy O'Rourke, second stone Nancy Cameron and lead Trish Affleck beat Birt 10-7 in Sunday night's one vs. two Page playoff game to advance directly to the championship game. MacPhee beat Donna Butler of Cornwall 9-2 in a sudden-death game between the third- and fourth-place teams.

Other members of Birt's rink are third stone Shelly Bradley, second stone Leslie MacDougall and lead Stefanie Clark.

The winning rink will represent P.E.I. at the national Scotties Tournament of Hearts in Victoria, B.C., from Feb. 21-March 1.
