SUMMERSIDE - It came right down to the final shot and Summerside native Mike Gaudet came through for his Charlottetown Curling Club rink.
Gaudet executed an open draw to the back centre eight foot for a single point and a 5-4 victory over Kyle Stevenson's Charlottetown Curling Club rink. The deciding game of the three-day Silver Fox cashspiel was held at the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club on Sunday afternoon.
Gaudet defeated Mark Armstrong of the Riverside Curling Club in Saint John, N.B., 7-3 in one semifinal game, and Stevenson downed Brett Gallant, also of the Charlottetown Curling Club, 7-4 in the other.
Teammates
Other members of Gaudet's winning foursome are third stone Eddie MacKenzie, second stone Tyler Harris and lead Sean Clarey. The Gaudet team took home the top prize of $2,000.
In the final, there were points scored in each of the eight ends.
The teams exchanged single points through the first three ends, with Stevenson leading 2-1. Gaudet counted a deuce in the fourth to take his first lead, 3-2, and the skips exchanged single points with last-rock advantage over the next three ends. That set the stage for Gaudet's clutch shot with the hammer in the final end.
A total of 18 teams from around the Maritimes competed and a total of $5,600 in prizes was up for grabs.
