Roughly 4,000 people braved the heat and sun and headed out for the opening of the Cavendish Beach Music Festival Wednesday.

With temperatures hovering around 27 degrees Celsius for much of the day, the weather was perfect and, according to fans, the performances were just as good.

“It’s great,” said Shannon Connolly of North Rustico. “Ashley MacIsaac put on a great show and the guitar player with him was just amazing for his age.”

Other fans felt similarly about opening night.

“It’s a good set-up,” said John Barrett. “It’s really great.”

Wednesday’s show saw performances from a number of ECMA favourites, including Ashley MacIsaac, Meaghan Blanchard, The Barra MacNeils, Madison Violet, Terry Kelly, Dennis Ellsworth, Slowcoaster and the Tom Fun Orchestra.

Overall, festival executive producer Jeff Squires said the opening night went smoothly.
