SUMMERSIDE - The Island Media Arts Co-operative has embarked on an ambitious research project.
The objective is to produce a media arts catalogue by gathering all film, video and media art ever produced on P.E.I.
"For the Island's media production sector this will be the very first extensive accounting of works," said IMAC executive director and project manager Corin McFadden. "It's going to be a significant database."
IMAC, a non-profit media arts production co-operative, has joined partnership with Robertson Library at UPEI. The library will host the research project as well as donate their IT services for the project.
The goal is to have an online catalogue that the public can fully access.
"Its development came out of the realization that there were some basic things missing in regards to the media production sector," said McFadden.
"There were no collective references, histories, catalogues, or what have you, that could describe what has been or what is really going on in this cultural sector of P.E.I."
The P.E.I. Media Arts Catalogue research project is part of a larger project funded by Skills P.E.I. entitled "Being Ahead of the Curve".
Anyone who has completed a film, video or media artwork is invited to contact researchers at 892-5592 or submit information online at www.imac.coop/catalogue.
IMAC began the project in January and will continue to collect submissions until April 30.
